What if it was play?

The limitless potential of your backyard

I used to live on a ranch in Texas.

29 acres of unincorporated land; there were no rules.

One day on the ranch, I watched a movie called Castle in the Sky.

It’s a film by Studio Ghibli - a Japanese animation studio.

Each of their films has child-like imagination at its core.

You leave feeling like anything is possible.

As soon as the movie ended, I quickly jotted down everything I wanted to build on the Texas ranch.

I didn’t consider how, I just let my imagination fly:

  • Eudaimonia machine

  • Kiln for pottery

  • Rotating pottery table

  • Archery range

  • Blacksmithing studio

  • Metalworking studio

  • Expanded gym

  • Outdoor workspace

  • Treehouse

  • Go Kart

  • Plane

  • Solar Workshop

  • Railway

  • Pickleball court

  • Creator studio

  • Camping spots

  • Earth houses

  • Greenhouses

  • Solar sleeping pods

  • Panel factory

  • Improve Creekview

  • Kickback deck

  • Observatory

  • Multifunctional booking room

  • Disc golf course

  • Climbing wall

  • Dog house

  • Pizza oven

  • Planning room

  • Theatre

  • Improved Sauna

  • Arches / Elven architecture

  • Programming OS for neighbourhoods

  • Benches

  • Tunnels

  • Swing

  • Swimming pool

  • Games park

  • A bar

  • Caves

  • Nooks

  • Circular spaces

  • Stone structures (they last)

  • Wing trial canopy

  • Cabin content car

What would you build on your property if money, rules, and practicality didn’t exist?

  1. Don’t think.

  2. Write down your version of this list and see what comes up.

  3. Comment it on this post :)

Life = a Studio Ghibli film, if you want.
